Frequently Asked Questions
SPA is intended to take athletes through workouts that challenge the movement skills, muscles, and metabolic energy systems specific to that sport. To maximize effectiveness and individualized attention, we keep groups at 16 or fewer. We go a step further in that workouts are generally scheduled to provide training for one sport at a time. If you sign up for our volleyball program, the athletes in your training group will consist solely of other volleyball players.
You sign up for a training “cycle” for the sport you wish to train for. A cycle is a two month time period during which you will be training. How often you train depends on whether you are in-season, off-season, pre-season, etc. Our staff work obsessively to make sure the workout is tailored not just to your sport, but to your position in that sport. Any injury history or special needs are also taken into account.
Each sport varies from cycle to cycle based on the total number of workouts per cycle your sport is doing. Training two, three or four times weekly of course costs more than an in-season athlete who would normally train once. These costs are further impacted by the overall length of the cycle. Summer being a longer cycle than normal, obviously costs more as well. Given that many of the athletes we train are in middle school and high school, we try to be cognizant of winter break, holidays, etc. when scheduling our training cycle.
Each instructor brings something unique to the table. All of our training staff, at a minimum, hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in Exercise Science or a closely related field. Whether you're a point guard or a pole-vaulter or somewhere in between, we've got an instructor for you. For more information, see our staff page.
DO YOU OFFER SKILL TRAINING, OR IS THE FOCUS
JUST ON IMPROVING ATHLETICISM?
If it has to do with making an athlete better, we probably do it. It's true that much of our focus is on improving athleticism, speed, strength, agility, flexibility, etc. Our staff has knowledge in track, baseball, football, volleyball and basketball and bring lots to the table but leave most of the "skills" to the athletes coach. For example, when a football players masters some of the speed and quickness drills, we may run routes with that individual to help them apply the drills to their actual sport.
WHAT’S THIS I HEARD ABOUT SPA HAVING AN AFFILIATION WITH THE NFL?
We do not have an affiliation with the National Football League. We are however one of only 7 officially recommended training sites in the United States for athletes wishing to prepare for the professional football national and regional combines.
DO YOU STRICTLY WORK WITH ATHLETES OR CAN PEOPLE PERSONAL TRAIN THERE TOO?
We offer both. We have group training for athletes. We also have individualized fitness training for people who are interested. Our athletes training for the professional football combine or for professional sports normally train alone or with other professionals.
